Malvern Running Groups
The day of the fun run has arrived! It's a Sunday morning and it's early. It's a cool day but looks like the sun will pop out before long. It's your first ever 5k fun run, and you have a feeling of nervous excitement in your belly. The friendly chatter as you wait at the start line and the announcer trying to fill the long 60 seconds until the starting horn sounds, seems like forever. You think you may need the loo again!! but you don't really, it's just nerves. You are going over your race plan. which is to start out a comfortable pace and get to the 2k mark feeling good.
The horn sounds, and you make a path through the runners to find some clear space as the adrenaline kicks in. You feel great, and the sounds of hundreds of feet all around you, pull you along without any effort. You hit the 1k mark and look at your watch, you are even faster than what you thought you would be. 1k becomes 2k and you think about a sip of water at the drinks station to wet the mouth. The next 1.5k goes by in an instant and then you find yourself waiting for the 4k mark. Thinking about anything and everything, lots of training tips like relax the breathing, lift up tall, use the arms to give you momentum, move them like a pendulum. You find a nice rhythm as you notice the person beside you has been there for more than 1K. The 4 k mark is when you know you are all but there! It's still not in site and then you round the bend and see the marker. It's a straight run to the finish-line too; You can see it in the distance. You think about sprinting , then realise it's not quite that close and you haven't actually seen the finish line, but you can see the crowd building rapidly. You start to plan the last few 100 metres, catch a couple of runners that are fading at the finish, but make sure you have enough to get there. The clapping and cheering starts then your besty calls out to you and with a massive grin, you dig deep and finish like an Olympian. You get your finishers medal from the volunteer and they even take your timing chip off for you.
Running is a great stress relief and a few basic pointers can give you a new understanding of why so many people both 'Runners' and surprisingly 'Non-Runners' , all LOVE to run.
That seems to make no sense! why do so many self proclaimed 'Non -Runners' run? There's a few reasons, running gives you:
'Feel good chemicals' in the body
A great sense of achievement
A great bond with people you train with
Increased ability to manage and lose weight
Central Park Malvern is a great setting for running and Saturday Morning running group sessions at 8am or Thursday night at 6:30pm with Lynx Personal Training are the best way to get yourself to your fun run goal. Running gets easier when you know how to run efficiently.
My 20 years of experience as a runner with some top 100 finishes in major public events with the odd podium in smaller runs, plus years of expert (and very patient)coaching from Anthony De' Castella has given me a great insight into all things running which I would love to share with you. All fitness levels are welcome and beginners are particularly welcome because it's even more rewarding when I see! that you see! that you can do it!
